Wierlkapelle

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Wierlkapelle , actually Thomaskapelle, is a chapel between Sandersdorf and Schamhaupten . It was built in 1907 due to the birth of the last Baron from Sandersdorf, Thomas De Bassus. It is still owned by the family today. Every year there is a procession, with a mass being celebrated there.

On the occasion of the renovation of the chapel, which was completed in 2003, the Catholic Women's Association of the Schamhaupten Parish organized a star pilgrimage in mid-May followed by May devotion. Among other things, the Madonna, which had stood there “for several decades [...], possibly since the time before the Second World War”, was restored and the masonry was cleaned. In 2005, the donation of a Madonna that was bought in the French Marian shrine of Lourdes caused a stir .
