Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust

The Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust is a UK non-profit organization dedicated to protecting waterfowl and wetlands . Internationally, this organization is considered to be the largest that takes care of the conservation of wetlands. Patron ( Patron ) is Queen Elizabeth II.

It was founded in 1946 by the ornithologist and artist Sir Peter Markham Scott under the name "Severn Wildfowl Trust" because he felt obliged to protect a certain wetland. Today this organization has almost 200,000 members (2009). One of the strategies of the organization is to buy up endangered wetlands and put them under protection. The organization owns nine protected areas with a total size of 20 square kilometers, which represent the habitat for 150,000 breeding birds. These protected areas are equipped with visitor centers for education. Over a million people visit it every year.

The organization is also involved in various conservation breeding programs.
