  • The well- stratified limestone formation (formerly also just "well-stratified limestone", also "Idoceratenschichten" or "Planula limestone") is a lithostratigraphic formation of the southern German Jura . It is underlaid by the Impressamergel Formation and overlaid by the Lacunosamergel Formation . It interlocks laterally with the Lochen formation and the Nerine limestone formation . It reaches a maximum thickness of 15 to 80 m and is dated to the upper Oxfordium .

    history

The term was proposed by Gert Bloos, Gerd Dietl and Günter Schweigert in 2005 for a lithostratigraphic rock formation. The name goes back to the term “well-layered limestone banks” introduced by Friedrich August Quenstedt in 1843. The name is derived from the wall-like appearance of the limestone banks in this formation. The older names planula limestone (from Idoceras planula ) or Idoceratenceratenschichten indicate the occurrence of the above ammonite species or genus in these layers.

    Definition and distribution area

The well-layered limestone formation includes wall-like, banked, light limestone banks. The lower limit is defined by the upper edge of the so-called "Bimammatum banks" (or Bimamatum subformation) of the Impressamergel formation. It interlocks with the hole formation , especially in the higher part, and is increasingly being replaced by this formation. The upper limit is the onset of the marly layers of the Lacunosamergel Formation. At the base of this formation, ammonite enrichments and layers of glauconite are formed locally. In the Upper Rhine Valley, it corresponds to the Nerine limestone formation . The distribution of the Impressamergel formation extends over the entire Swabian Alb to the Wutach area.

    Temporal scope and breakdown

The well-stratified limestone formation is chronostratigraphically dated to the upper Oxfordium. It is not broken down further.
