Former Hinderkinck estate

The Dülmen wildlife park was opened in the 1860s and extends over 250 hectares close to the city in the west of the city of Dülmen . It consists of a landscaped area of meadows, forests and lakes. Fallow deer , red deer and sheep ( Heidschnucken ) have a home in the extensive area . The ponds attract a number of bird species.

Three entrances lead into the listed park, the central path of which is integrated into the cycle path network of the city of Dülmen. Another gate is opened if necessary, for example at rifle festivals. Some of the paths are accessible with a wheelchair.

The park is open to the public free of charge all year round.

history

In 1860 the land that originally belonged to Gut Hinderkinck, founded in 1341, was acquired from the heir, Cristof Schulte Hinderkinck. However, the site was initially intended as a country residence for the Duke of Croÿ. In 1864 the owner Alfred von Croÿ commissioned the English landscape architect Edward Milner with the design, who planned the 120 hectare site with a pond, wooden bridge, meadows and groups of trees. The heart pond with the wooden bridge was also particularly formative at this time. The execution was carried out by the gardener Charles Barnard, who also had an influence on the design. The park was planned in such a way that it is directly connected to the castle, built in 1834, through the park that was created at the same time. The palace garden itself was also converted into a landscape garden in 1861.

In the following years the park was expanded four times at an interval of about 10 years. Wildlife has populated the park since the 1920s. With the construction of Autobahn 43, the area was reduced to today's 250 hectares, the originally planned part was retained. The palace park, which has been reduced in size by development, has its origin in the palace garden.
