The Pforzheim Wildlife Park was founded in 1968. In the Pforzheim Wildlife Park, more than 400 mammals , fish and birds of 70 species live on an area of 16.5 hectares . There are numerous offers for children (forest climbing garden, petting zoo, children's farm, two playgrounds). In the nature education center, the Ewald-Steinle-Haus, which is located on the grounds of the wildlife park, exhibitions and workshops take place regularly. The nature education center was founded in 1997 by the Wildpark Pforzheim e. V. or donated by the previous support group under its then chairman Ewald-Steinle.

Other offers in the Pforzheim Wildlife Park are a tree nature trail, show feeding of lynxes and otters , various quizzes for children and junior ranger training during the summer holidays. Guided tours are offered for school classes as well as for children's birthdays. Forester Carsten Schwarz has been the head of the wildlife park since 2003. Visiting the park is free of charge and paying for parking.

The Büchenbronn game reserve, which was created in 1972, also belongs to the wildlife park. It is located above the Hermannsee. Black and fallow deer as well as mouflons (wild sheep) live in the enclosures.

In 2015, the online portal TripAdvisor identified the Pforzheim Wildlife Park as the five most popular zoos or zoological facility in Germany and, with the so-called Certificate of Excellence, was once again number 1 among the attractions in Pforzheim.

Junior ranger

Junior rangers have been trained in the wildlife park since 2004. They inform visitors about the feeding rules and help if someone gets lost. They also ensure cleanliness, lead or accompany children's birthday parties and are out and about with animal keepers to feed or muck in the enclosures. The one-week training takes place at the beginning and at the end of the summer vacation. In summer 2019, the thousandth junior ranger was trained in the wildlife park.

Support association

The work in the wildlife park is supported by the Förderverein Wildpark Pforzheim e. V. supports. The friends' association was founded in 2006. The aim of the friends' association is to help ensure that nature and culture in the region are preserved for future generations. The friends' association makes a decisive contribution to financing large-scale projects such as the otter enclosure and the new aviary for the bald ibis and eagle owl. The initiator was Ewald-Steinle, who for decades was the chairman of the Pforzheim Wildlife Park sponsorship group. Christine Stavenhagen, who died in 2015, was the chairperson of the resulting development association. Jan Lauer has been chairman since 2016.
