The Roggenhausen Wildlife Park is located about 3 km southwest of Aarau in the direction of Eppenberg-Wöschnau in the small Roggenhausen Valley . It is part of an important local recreation area in the city.
description
A large part of the system is located in the municipality of Aarau, the smaller part is in the municipality of Eppenberg-Wöschnau. The wildlife park is mainly home to native animal species, including ibex , deer , wild boar and marmots . Entry is free and possible around the clock, all year round. The animals are only allowed to be fed with suitable food available in the park.
The park has a restaurant with a terrace, a children's playground and an additional self-service kiosk in summer.
history
The wildlife park, founded in 1903, is maintained by the city of Aarau (local community) and through sponsorship and membership fees. In 1931 the duck pond was created from the former fire pond . At the time of the cultivation slaughter, carrots, potatoes and cabbage were planted on part of the land in the park. In 1970 the wild boar enclosure was opened . For the 100th anniversary in 2003, special visitor platforms were built at the deer and mouflon enclosures and the nature trail was newly laid out on the way from the parking lot to the wildlife park.
Arboretum
In the area of the park there is an arboretum with rare standard trees. At the ibex enclosure on the Älpli and next to the Spycher from 1642 there is a picnic area with a fireplace.
