Terrell State Hospital Cemetery
The Terrell State Hospital Cemetery (also: Wildwood Cemetery ) is a cemetery in the Texas town Terrell .
The cemetery was laid out about a mile northeast of the hospital shortly after the Terrell State Hospital opened in July 1885. It served as a burial place for the patients who died in the hospital. The first burial took place on October 22, 1885. A separate department for persons of the Jewish faith is separated by a fence.
The oldest tombstone still in existence today is dated January 19, 1888. In 1907, victims of a smallpox epidemic were buried here. During the 1950s and 1960s, there were between 30 and 35 burials per year. Since then the number has continuously decreased.
