Wilhelm Freddie
Wilhelm Freddie (actually Frederik Wilhelm Christian Carlsen ; * February 7, 1909 , † October 26, 1995 in Copenhagen ) was a Danish all-round artist who was best known as a painter and sculptor of surrealism , but also in the fields of film and ballet and window dressing was active. He also excelled as a happening artist.
Life
Wilhelm Freddie began his artistic career as an abstract painter, but soon turned to surrealism in the 1930s. Because of his controversial art statements, he was arrested in 1937 at an exhibition opening in Copenhagen for spreading pornography (in Denmark!). His works were confiscated and taken to the Copenhagen Crime Museum. They were only released again in 1963.
