William Katavolos

William Katavolos (* 1924 ) is a Greek-American architect , urban planner and furniture designer. He is professor at the Pratt Institute in New York and vice director of the Center for Experimental Structures .

He became known in the 1950s / 1960s with his archetypal, classic furniture designs. The T-Chair for “Laverne” made of tubular steel with a stretched piece of leather is often counted among the most important chairs of the 20th century. Katavolos is currently engaged in urban planning and experimental structures.
