Williams curves

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Williams curves (after Michael Williams) enable the determination of which microphone base a and which axis angle α lead to which usable recording area.

A maximum level difference of 15 dB and a maximum transit time difference of 1.21 ms is assumed for the localization from the direction of a stereo loudspeaker. These values were found empirically by clicking Marracas and speech signals in an anechoic room. The shorter the click signals, the smaller the values found appear.
