Wind window

A wind window is the area in which a kite can move.

The wind window is part of a spherical shell, the center of which is the pilot who steers the kite and whose radius is determined by the length of the line. If the pilot lengthened the wind direction as a straight line, the kite must be moved at an angle of up to about 90 ° to the imaginary straight line, depending on the design and wind strength. If the pilot is standing on level ground, a quarter of the spherical shell remains as a usable area.

At the edge of the wind window, in the area of ​​large angles, lower tensile forces occur than in the area from 0 ° to around 30 °, which is therefore also called the “power zone”. In strong winds, kites can only be started and landed in a controlled manner at the edge of the wind window.
