Market position

Shumi wine cellar

The Shumi Wine Company fills approximately one million bottles a year. The company has its own vineyards of 300 hectares, which are fully in yield. In addition, there are around 400 tons of grapes that the estate purchases every year. The largest export market is still Russia (80%), but also to the USA where many Georgians in exile live and to Switzerland. Export prices can range between $ 2.50 and $ 6.00. When exporting, the prices are cheaper than in Georgia itself, as no taxes are levied. Domestically, the wines cost around 50 cents more from the winery, the retail surcharge is another 30–40%.

Oenological methods

The company invests in modern oenological processes for viticulture and thus in the future, but also attaches great importance to traditional processes. In 2001, construction began on a new cellar building, which was completed in 2004. The building has a storage capacity of 700,000 liters, partly in stainless steel tanks but also in barriques . The must fermentation takes place in wooden barrels.
