Winfried Bischler

Winfried Bischler (born March 24, 1953 in Bavaria ) is a German police officer and from January 20, 2015 to September 30, 2016 was head of the "Public Security" department in the Thuringian Ministry of the Interior and Local Affairs.

Life

Bischler began in 1974 as a police commissioner candidate with the Bavarian riot police. After working at the civil service college and clerk in the field of terrorism investigations in the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office, he worked as the command leader of the escort protection for the Prime Minister Franz Josef Strauss . This was followed by various management tasks, such as from 1988 to 1989 as head of the Bavarian Situation Center in the Bavarian State Ministry of the Interior and then as head of the terrorism department in the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office , as well as deputy director of the Fürstenfeldbruck police department . From 1993 to 1997, Bischler was head of the crime prevention department in the Upper Bavaria Police Headquarters and then for five years head of the department in the Bavarian State Ministry of the Interior and then head of the training institute for the Bavarian police for the same period. Since January 2009 he has been Vice President of the Police Headquarters Upper Bavaria North in Ingolstadt and in October 2012 he became President of the Thuringian Police. On January 20, 2015, by resolution of the state government, Bischler was appointed head of the "Public Security" department in the Thuringian Ministry of the Interior and Local Affairs.

He is the highest-ranking police officer in Thuringia since the fall of the Wall (golden oak leaves and four stars).

Bischler retired at the end of September 2016. Since then, the office of ministerial director in Thuringia has been vacant.
