Composer Martin Böttcher (2002)

The Winnetou melody from the pen of the German composer Martin Böttcher is the main instrumental theme of the Karl May films Winnetou 2nd part from 1964 and Winnetou 3rd part from 1965. After the Old Shatterhand melody , the title is the second most successful music title from the Karl May films of the 1960s.

The title first appeared on the single Polydor 52 399 in mono (the harmonica soloist was the Hamburg musician Johnny Müller , as was the case with the Old Shatterhand melody ) and became Polydor 237 422 in stereo after the LP "Unter Giegen / Winnetou II" was released republished several times. Today the title is standard on many CD releases of music from Karl May films.

After its release, the title was interpreted vocal by various artists, including by Winnetou actor Pierre Brice under the title The big dream on the album “Emotions” and the German group Superboys . Their interpretation, titled WISH U WERE HERE - wants' you were with me reached September 12th, 1998 the first place in the ZDF - hit parade . In March 2000 the cover version Vinetů by the group Těžkej Pokondr from the album “Vypusťte Krakena” even received double platinum in the Czech Republic .

The Winnetou melody was reused for the ZDF television production Winnetous Returns (1st and 2nd part) (1998); the harmonica soloist on these recordings was Giuseppe Solera . When it comes to television reports on the Plitvice Lakes in Croatia, the title is one of the film producers' favorite musical accompaniments.
