The Wir-singen-für-Jesus guitar choir (also known as the “Wir singen für Jesus” guitar choir ) was a vocal and instrumental formation under the direction of Ernst August Eicker, which was active in the German evangelical music scene in the 1960s and through concerts and Record recordings became known.
history
With the rise of the guitar as an instrument for worship and missionary use within the evangelical churches in Germany, so-called guitar choirs were formed in many places , which combined guitars with singing voices as an ensemble and created a very popular to progressive music style for sacred music in post-war Germany. The Wir-singen-für-Jesus guitar choir consisted exclusively of female members, some of whom played guitar and some of whom only sang. The choir became known beyond the borders of Germany through several recordings for Happy Messages in the Lied and through the Evangeliums-Rundfunk and was invited to concerts.
With the spread of the youth choir movement in evangelical congregations and free churches in Germany, the progressive efforts within the Christian music scene shifted away from the guitar choirs towards the youth choirs. As a result, the We're Singing for Jesus guitar choir broke up.
Today the historical recordings of the guitar choir are back in the nostalgic show Unforgotten - songs that can be heard at ERF . Some titles were digitally remastered and re-released as part of the CD series of the same name by Verlag Gerth Medien .
