We Are Champions (Original Title: Campeones ) is a 2018 dramatic comedy directed by Javier Fesser . History shows how Marco, a basketball coach, has to take responsibility for a very special new team. Champions is a production by Morena Films and Pendelton Films, Mediaset Spain and Movistar +, in which RTVE and Universal Pictures International Spain are also involved. The comedy premiered on April 6, 2018. The soundtrack by Rafael Arnau (regular writer for director Fesser) includes the song "Este es el momento", which was composed and performed by Coque Malla.
The film was selected to represent Spain in the 91st edition of the Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film .

The actor Marco has numerous professional and personal problems and after his dismissal as coach of his basketball team suffers from a traffic accident, which is punished with a heavy fine.

Marco has to choose between 2 years in prison or 90 days of civil service training for a basketball team called "Los Amigos", which is made up of athletes with various disabilities. At first Marco takes a negative view of the situation, but over time he becomes aware of what he can still learn from these people.

The film was inspired by the story of the Aderes Burjassot basketball team, which was founded by people with intellectual disabilities and won twelve Spanish championships between 1999 and 2014.

Filming

The film was shot for approximately nine weeks in different areas of the Community of Madrid and the province of Huelva.
