Wired for management

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wired for Management (WfM) is a specification developed by Intel in the 1990s , which is intended to enable the management of all hardware and software components of personal computers in a network . WfM is mainly based on DMI and includes Preboot Execution Environment (PXE) and Wake On LAN (WOL).

The standard is considered obsolete in 2011; its successor is the Intelligent Platform Management Interface and Intel Active Management Technology (AMT).

With WfM it is possible to centrally manage newly assembled computers via network without the prior installation of additional software and to set up the desired software ( operating system ). Likewise, computers equipped with WfM can be supplied with updates via network and the system resources can be queried remotely.
