Religions Week

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Week of Religions is a Swiss-wide interreligious week of action that takes place annually. During the week of religions, around 100 interreligious events take place in the first week of November. They invite you to encounter and dialogue between the religions and cultures based in Switzerland. The organization IRAS COTIS is the originator and coordinator of the «Week of Religions» and develops the program in cooperation with regional organizers.

Based on the idea that interreligious work has its place at the grassroots level, directly in the religious communities, it is local organizers and committed religious communities who make the Week of Religions possible. They organize over 100 offers every year. Theater and film, walks, panel discussions, table discussions, joint celebrations, lectures, music and dance, exhibitions, round tables, as well as visits to religious communities and religious festivals are part of the typical diversity of the Week of Religions.

history

The former church council president and reformed pastor Georg Vischer as president of IRAS COTIS and Heinz Haab as managing director at the time committed themselves to an annual nationwide “Day of Religions”. Inspired by the successful Interreligious Dialogue and Action Week (IDA) in St. Gallen, the idea of the “Week of Religions” developed. Heinz Haab set up a network of people to contact in all cantons, formed a patronage committee, a steering group and a project management team. In 2007, for example, the first national “Week of Religions” was held, which has been held successfully every year with over 100 events throughout Switzerland since then. In 2016 the Religions Week celebrated its 10th anniversary in the House of Religions in Bern.

organization

The project is strategically managed by a steering group with members from religious communities and cantonal leaders. The project management is carried out by the IRAS COTIS office, the project partners are the regional and local organizers.

financing

The week of religions is financed by cantonal contributions and the support of religious communities. The project would not be feasible without extensive in-house work by IRAS COTIS and partner organizations and a lot of volunteer work.
