planning

The House of Religions - Dialogue of Cultures association , which was awarded the Integration Prize of the City of Bern in 2006 , was founded on April 25, 2002. The Europaplatz Foundation was founded in March 2006 to raise the necessary financial resources for the project.

Among others, Hindu and Buddhist communities, the Alevis and the Working Group of Christian Churches in the Canton of Bern (AKB) want to set up sacred spaces . The Jewish community of Bern and the Baha'i community do not want to set up their own rooms, but do not want to support the project. The Islamic Cantonal Association of Bern ( Umma ) has withdrawn from the project after making initial concessions. The Muslim association on Hochfeldstrasse, however, has expressed interest and has been given a location on Europaplatz.

Building

The building stands in a triangle between the motorway and the railway line at Europaplatz in Bern- Ausserholligen , between Bern-Bethlehem and Bern- Bümpliz . In April 2007, the city of Bern issued the building permit for the project, which is estimated at CHF 50 million. The start of construction has already been postponed several times. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on June 27, 2012. On December 14, 2014, the building was opened. On April 26, 2015, the mosque of the Muslim Association of Bern was opened in the building.
