The Wood-Verner Cemetery is a burial ground in the Texas town of Tyler . It is located northwest of the city in the area of ​​the Dixie Community.

history

The cemetery is the oldest in the Dixie area. It is named after two families who owned land there. The oldest dated grave is that of John Gordon, who died in 1850. In 1855 the land was transferred to the Black Fork Methodist Episcopal Church.

Many settlers from the time of the land conquest, Polish immigrants, former slaves and at least two veterans of the American Civil War found their final resting place in the cemetery .

Today a volunteer association takes care of the maintenance of the area.
