World Habitat Award

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The World Habitat Awards were launched in 1985 by the Building and Social Housing Foundation as the United Nations contribution to the International Year of Homes for the Homeless in 1987.

Every year five finalists are chosen and two prizes are awarded, one for a project in the south and one for a project in the north, whereby the demarcation corresponds less to the geography than to the level of development of the respective country. The submissions are judged by an international jury of experts, the prizes are endowed with £ 10,000 each and are ceremoniously presented every year on the first Monday in October, on World Habitat Day .
