Writely has not been available online since October 2006 and is fully integrated into Google's own web office solution.

Program scope

It could be used for joint editing of texts. An important feature was the ability to open and edit doc , PostScript , RTF and ODF files. In terms of appearance, it was similar to other well-known word processing programs due to its WYSIWYG interface with the usual components such as dialog boxes, menus and quick start buttons. It allowed the assignment of access rights ( owner / collaborator / viewer ) and the simultaneous editing of text documents. Writely was considered a Web 2.0 product due to its novel technologies and services .

Writely was based on Ajax technology . Writely was only offered in an English version; the successor product Google Docs is available in different languages.

Writely and its four developers have been part of Google Inc. since March 9, 2006. In October 2006, the company was replaced by Google Docs, which is a combination of Writely and Google Spreadsheets.
