Throw net

Fisherman throwing a throwing net

The throwing net is a small fishing net for catching fish. The circular net, with weights on the edges, is thrown by a person in such a way that it falls into the water and sinks open to the ground. There, the lower opening is pulled together by cords, the end of which the thrower holds in his hands, and the net with the fish in it is then hauled in.

Throwing nets were also used in gladiator fights , see Retiarius .

Throwing nets are also used to catch animals on land, for example in 2013 a kangaroo that escaped from an enclosure near Ottenschlag in Lower Austria.

Ejecting a capsule with a recently released throwing net can be used to capture drones. The DroneCatcher intercepting drone from Delft Dynamics, Netherlands, can act on a drone to be intercepted from a distance of 6–12 meters. The SkyWall100 portable gun , developed in the UK by Open Works Engineering, hurls a capsule up to 100 meters, which is the last to open and release a net.

The 1.17 kilogram NetGun can be triggered in the hand or mounted on a sufficiently large drone. With the gas ejected from a cartridge containing 16 grams of CO 2 , it hurls four rubber-buffered weights in slightly divergent directions, from which the corners of a four by four meter net hang, up to 20 meters. Nets with a mesh size of 30, 50, 100 or 200 millimeters in nylon or the stiffer Dyneema are available to catch animals, including birds or drones.

fiction

In the film The Amazing Spider-Man (2012), Peter Parker, later Spider-Man, builds a net shooter that, like the spinnerets in spiders, is based on liquid ejected from the wrists.
