XHTML Basic

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

XHTML Basic ( "elementary XHTML" ) is an XML- based version of XHTML that, like WML , is tailored to mobile devices such as smartphones and PDAs .

Version 1.0 was developed by employees of the W3C and released on November 3, 2000. Version 1.1 was presented for the first time on June 6, 2006 and released as a recommendation on July 13, 2007.

In contrast to XHTML, XHTML Basic has fewer elements for text formatting and does not support framesets and image maps . Script elements and event attributes (such as onmouseover) are only supported from version 1.1.

As an extension to the XHTML 1.1 standard, XHTML Basic introduces the attribute for text inputmodeinput fields to indicate to the browser that only numbers or an e-mail address, for example, are expected in an input field. For example, the browser can facilitate input using a telephone keypad by only offering numbers.
