Concept of the MCS

The XM1202 Mounted Combat System (MCS) (German about system for mounted combat ) was a project of the United States Army . It was part of the Future Combat Systems program . If it had been implemented, it would have become part of the military global information grid . With the termination of the FCS program by Defense Secretary Robert Gates , the project was discontinued.

System description

The MCS is a lightweight, air-transportable vehicle. Since the armor is limited to a minimum (protection from 30 mm MK) and protection from anti-tank weapons is only guaranteed by protective measures that are active at a distance , the tactics used were designed to attack the enemy first. That is why it should be able to fire at a target up to eight kilometers away with its 120-millimeter cannon both directly and indirectly. The required target data is sent to the tank via the network. A car loader should allow a high rate of fire. The vehicle was also to be equipped with a machine gun ( 12.7 × 99 mm NATO ) and a 40-millimeter machine grenade launcher. The vehicle should be operated by two soldiers and possibly offer space for two more passengers. Since the beginning of 2008, prototypes of the 120 mm XM360 cannon have been in practical testing.
