Xaraya is a web framework that is published as free software under the GNU General Public License . Xaraya is written in the PHP programming language and is based on the previously unfinished developer version 0.8 (from mid-2002) of the PostNuke project.

Although Xaraya shares some basic ideas with PostNuke (now Zikula ) and PHP-Nuke , the basic technology has been completely redesigned to achieve a separation between code, design and content and to modularize and make the functionalities more flexible.

This means that a wide variety of web offers can be created with Xaraya. From simple blogs to portals , online communities and web shops to large content management systems such as www.linux.com .

The system of covering templates is outstanding . This makes it possible to fully adapt the website locally and still take part in the ongoing update processes of the program code. The templates are automatically precompiled when the page is called up with the integrated template engine block layout and are then available for quick page loading .

The program code is further developed publicly with the Monotone version control system . Xaraya can be operated with different databases ( MySQL , PostgreSQL etc.), but also with SQLite without a separate database system on simpler web hosting offers.
