Yadana project

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Yadana project is a gas production project in the Bay of Bengal in Burma (Myanmar). Partners in the Yadana project are the Petroleum Authority of Thailand Exploration and Production , the French company Total , the US company Unocal and the Myanmar Oil and Gas Enterprise .

The gas produced from the project is primarily exported to Thailand via its own pipeline .

The project is very controversial among human rights organizations. These accuse the operators of using forced labor to build the pipeline and driving residents away from their villages along the route. As a result, Unocal has been sued several times for compensation in the USA. A documentary entitled "Total Denial" shows the background.
