Rabbi Jechiel Jaakov Weinberg (also Yechiel Yaakov Weinberg , Yehiel Yaakov Weinberg or Jehiel Jacob Weinberg ; born 1884 in Ciechanowiec , Poland ; died 1966 in Montreux , Switzerland ) was an Orthodox rabbi , Posek , Talmud scholar and Rosh-Yeshiva (rector of the von Rabbi Esriel Hildesheimer established rabbinical seminar in Berlin), author (among others) of the seridei eish (“remnants of fire”, collection of responses, 1961 ff.).

Life

He was born in Poland, studied and worked in Lithuania and went to Germany after the outbreak of the First World War , studied at the University of Gießen (graduation Dr. phil.), Taught at the Rabbinical Seminary in Berlin founded by Esriel Hildesheimer in 1873 and also became its rector in 1938 . During this time, despite rejecting the concept in his youth, he became an important exponent of neo-orthodoxy. In 1939 he emigrated from National Socialist Germany to Poland. There he was deported by the Germans to a concentration camp in 1941.

He spent the last twenty years of his life in Montreux , Switzerland .

On June 18, 2018 , a stumbling block was laid in front of his former residence, Berlin-Charlottenburg , Wilmersdorfer Straße 106 .
