The Orthodox Union (OU) is an umbrella organization for Orthodox Jewish communities and organizations in the USA . The Union, based in New York City, was founded in 1898 by Rabbi Henry Pereira Mendes (1852-1937). Her field of activity today encompasses many areas of religious Jewish life.
