Yeleen
Yeleen is a hip-hop duo consisting of the Smarty (Burkina Faso) and Manwdoé (Chad).
Career
Yeleen became known in 2001 through her first album Juste 1 peu 2 lumière . A second album Dieu seul sait was released in 2003 and Dar es Salam in 2006 . The two artists Mawndoé and Smarty combine socially critical texts in French, Arabic and West African languages in a melodious hip-hop that takes up many local elements. The name of the band is the word for "light" in the languages Bambara and Dioula . In 2007 they were awarded the Kundé d'or for the best artists in Burkina Faso. The latest album was released in 2010 and was called "Redemption".
