Yoshin-ryu Naginatajutsu

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Yoshin-ryū Naginatajutsu ( Japanese 楊 心 流 薙刀 術 , German "Willow Tree Heart School Naginata Techniques") is a traditional Japanese martial art that is recognized by the Japanese Association of Traditional Martial Arts " Nihon Kobudō Kyokai ".

origin

The Yoshin-ryū style was developed by Akiyama Shirobei Yoshitoki in the early Tokugawa period around 1660. Yoshin-ryū Naginatajutsu emerged from Yoshin-ryū and specializes in the techniques of Naginata , the Japanese halberd .

description

In addition to the techniques with the Naginata, there are also techniques with the spear ( Sōjutsu ), the short stick ( Hanbō ) and the chain sickle ( Kusarigama ) in the Yoshin-ryū Naginatajutsu . Yoshin-ryū Naginatajutsu, like other Japanese martial arts, offers a way of strengthening the body and mind. In Japan Naginatajutsu and Naginatadō are mainly trained by women. In the Yoshin-ryū Naginatajutsu the women train the techniques in the kimono in contrast to most other styles or the Naginatadō . The sword and jujutsu techniques, which were originally part of the Yoshin-ryū, are no longer part of the Yoshin-ryū Naginatajutsu tradition. This martial art is rooted in the Japanese prefecture of Hiroshima and is continued by Koyama Takako ( Sōke ).

In addition to this traditional martial art, Yoshin-ryū Naginatajutsu, there are also other traditional fighting styles that contain Naginatajutsu, the most famous of which is the Tenshin Shōden Katori Shintō-ryū . The modern fighting styles, which often compete with the Naginata , are called Naginatadō .
