Yot Chiang Rai

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Phraya Yot Chiang Rai (Yotchiangrai, also Yot Mueang) was king of the Kingdom of Lan Na in what is now northern Thailand between 1487 and 1495 .

Yot Chiang Rai was a son of Thao (Prince) Bunrueang, the only son of King Tilokarat . He arranged for the cremation of his grandfather in Wat Maha Potharam , Chiang Mai , the capital of Lan Na. He then had a large stupa built to contain the ashes of Tilocarat.

In 1492 Yot Chiang Rai had Wat Tapo Tharam built and in 1495 passed the rule to his son Phraya Kaeo , probably at the urging of the nobility, who were dissatisfied with his rule.
