The Yotsu SUMO ( Jap. 四つ相撲 ) is a fighting style within the Sumo -Ringsports and is the technically demanding application of handles and discards the mawashi (belt) of the opponent. In most fights, the tachi-ai , the clash of the fighters after the start, is followed by a brief exchange of blows with tsuppari (blows with the flat of the hand), while both rikishi seek an ideal grip on the opponent's belt, on the other hand also the other hand try to prevent.

Many techniques of throwing are extremely demanding and therefore rarely practicable against a similarly strong opponent. The most common throwing techniques are Uwatenage (Überarmwurf with one hand on the arm of the opponent on the mawashi) and the Shitate-nage (underhand cast: is well, except that through resorted under the arm of the opponent). In the contemporary sumo world, the yokozuna Asashōryū was known for his technically shod throws. However, many fights are already decided by tsuppari without a hand on the mawashi.

The other great style in sumo is called oshi sumo or tsuki oshi sumo . Their representatives rely on blows and shocks.
