You Need a Budget (YNAB) is personal finance software based on the idea that the monthly spending budget is divided into different categories ( envelope method ).

Versions

The latest version was released on December 30, 2015 as a web-based application under the name "The New YNAB". Additional apps for Android, iPhone and iPad have been developed for the new version. New functions of the web-based version include the possibility of creating your own goals for individual categories.

YNAB 4 is available for OS X and Windows. The first versions of YNAB were based on the Microsoft Excel spreadsheet.

An app for iOS has also been available since 2010 . This can be synchronized with the desktop version via a Dropbox account. The iPhone version is relatively limited in its functionality, so inputs and outputs can primarily be written and the various accounts and categories viewed. The iPad version, on the other hand, also allows you to adjust the budget items in the categories.

An app has also been available for Android devices since 2011.

costs

The current web-based version is currently offered as a subscription for $ 83.99 annually or $ 6.99 monthly (as of December 2017).

YNAB 4 is currently selling for $ 60. For enrolled students, YNAB 4 is free for one year.
