Espéraza is a French commune in the Limoux arrondissement in the Aude department in the Occitanie region in the foothills of the Pyrenees . It has 1870 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017). Espéraza belongs to the canton of La Haute-Vallée de l'Aude and to the communal association Communauté de communes Pyrénées Audoises . The inhabitants are called Espérazannais .
geography
Espéraza is located about 33 kilometers south-southwest of Carcassonne on the Aude . Espéraza is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Antugnac in the north, Couiza in the northeast, Rennes-le-Château in the east, Granès in the southeast, Saint-Ferriol in the south, Campagne-sur-Aude in the southwest and Val-du-Faby with Fa in the west.
As a wine-growing region, the municipality is known for the varieties Blanquette méthode ancestrale , Blanquette de Limoux and Crémant de Limoux .
