Rennes-les-Bains is a municipality with 205 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) with Celtic / Roman origin in southern France in the Aude department in the Occitanie region about 40 kilometers south of Carcassonne and about twelve kilometers from the Pic de mountain Bugarach . It is known for its four hot water springs , which is why the Romans built a spa next to this place.
Rennes-les-Bains is a neighboring town of Rennes-le-Château . Only one way - today a small road - connects the two villages over the mountain in between.
The small town is often associated with the “mystery” of Rennes-le-Château, as the local pastor Henri Boudet (1872–1914) is associated with Bérenger Saunière , the pastor of Rennes-le-Château at the time. However, whether these two churchmen actually had a friendly relationship is debatable.
In his book “la vraie langue celtique” (1891), Boudet describes two Celtic stone circles around Rennes-les-Bains, parts of which actually exist.
Today the small village with very few inhabitants is a tourist pilgrimage for mystery researchers, pre-Pyrenees lovers and supporters of the New Age movement.
