Cailhau ( Occitan : Calhau ) is a southern French municipality with 266 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the center of the Aude department in the Occitania region (before 2016 Languedoc-Roussillon ). The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement Limoux (until 2017 Limoux ) and the canton La Piège au Razès (until 2015 Alaigne ). The inhabitants are called Cailhautais .

Cailhau is located on the southeastern edge of the Lauragais in the former county of Razès about 26 kilometers west-southwest of Carcassonne . Cailhau is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Cailhavel in the north, Montréal in the north and northeast, Brugairolles in the east and southeast, Cambieure in the south, Belvèze-du-Razès in the southwest, Gramazie in the west and Ferran in the west and northwest.
