Belcaire is a municipality with 394 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in France . It is located in the Aude department in the Occitanie region .
geography
Belcaire is the capital of the Pays de Sault. He is on a high plateau in the Pyrenees at an average altitude of 1000 m on the D 613 road from Ax-les-Thermes to Narbonne . The place is 56 km southeast of Limoux in the arrondissement of Limoux .
Neighboring municipalities are (clockwise from the north) Fougax-et-Barrineuf , Roquefeuil , Niort-de-Sault , Camurac and Comus .
history
The name Belcaire goes back to the name of the former Bellicadum castle from the early 13th century. The place used to be the seat of the royal administration of the Pays de Sault region.

Attractions
