Camurac is a French commune with 98 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Aude department in the Occitanie region . It belongs to the community association Communauté de communes Pyrénées Audoises . Camurac has the only winter sports area in the Pyrenees in the Aude department. The tourist name for the region around Camurac is Pays Cathare .
geography
Camurac is located in southern France in the Pyrenees in the Pays d'Aillou countryside on the western edge of the Aude department, 98 kilometers southeast of Toulouse , 37.4 kilometers southwest of Limoux , the seat of the sub-prefecture of the Arrondissements , and 3.9 kilometers southwest of Belcaire , the capital of the canton , at an average altitude of 1449 meters above sea level . The Mairie stands at an altitude of 1221 meters. Neighboring communities of Camurac are Comus in the northwest, Belcaire in the northeast, La Fajolle in the southeast and Montaillou in the west. Montaillou is already in the neighboring Ariège department . The municipality has an area of 1161 hectares.

Culture and sights
Camurac Castle dates from the 16th century. It is privately owned and is now used as a holiday colony and guesthouse.
In the center of the village there is a wayside cross that was erected in 1771. It was classified as a historic monument in 1976 . There are other listed buildings in the Saint-Just-Saint-Pasteur church . This includes a silver ciborium that was made between 1809 and 1819, a silver chalice that was made between 1819 and 1838, and an altarpiece from the last quarter of the 17th century. Justus and Pastor were two Spanish martyrs.
