Aunat is a small French commune with 67 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Aude department in the Occitanie region ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Limoux and the canton of La Haute-Vallée de l'Aude .
geography
The municipality is located around 50 kilometers southwest of Carcassonne in the Pays de Sault landscape on a ridge between the deeply cut valleys of the Rebenty and Aude rivers . Neighboring communities are:
- Joucou in the north,
- Bessède-de-Sault in the east,
- Escouloubre in the south,
- Fontanès-de-Sault in the southwest and
- Rodome to the west.
The river Aude with the Gorges de l'Aude gorge runs along the southern municipal boundary.
