Fa is a village and a former French commune with 344 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Aude department in the Occitanie region . It belonged to the arrondissement of Limoux and the canton of Quillan .

With effect from January 1, 2019, the former municipalities of Fa and Rouvenac were merged to form the Commune nouvelle Val-du-Faby and have the status of a Commune déléguée in the new municipality . The administrative headquarters are in Fa.

geography

Fa is 55 kilometers east of Foix and about 40 kilometers south of Carcassonne . The area comprises a section of the high plateau between the river valleys of Hers and Aude , which cut through numerous mountain ridges on the way north from the Pyrenees . The valley of the Ruisseau de Fa (also called Faby ) runs to the north, the valley of the Ruisseau de Brézilhou to the south . Both rivers flow into the Aude a little further east. Between the river valleys are chains of hills that reach heights of over 500 m, while the village of Fa lies at about 270 m in the valley floor. In the extreme southeast, the area extends to the 80 m high edge of the Aude valley. The districts of Les Lanies, Les Sauzils and Ramounichoux belong to Fa . Fa bordered the municipalities of La Serpent in the north, Antugnac in the northeast, Espéraza and Campagne-sur-Aude in the east, Quillan in the south and Rouvenac in the west.

Viticulture

In the north of the municipality, Fa has a small wine-growing area on the slopes of the Faby Valley, which are open to the south and south-east. The grapes are used in the production of sparkling wines of the appellations Blanquette de Limoux , Crémant de Limoux and Blanquette méthode ancestrale .

Economy and Infrastructure

23 farms are located in Fa (eight winegrowers, cultivation of grain, oilseeds, vegetables, aromatic plants and fruit, breeding of cattle and poultry).

The D 12 road from Chalabre to Espéraza runs through Fa . In Espéraza there is a connection to the trunk road D 118 to Carcassonne . Espéraza train station, two kilometers from Fa, is on the Carcassonne- Rivesaltes railway line .
