Ignition plus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ignition positive or switched battery is an expression of the automobile - electrical and referred the switched to the ignition key electrical positive pole of a vehicle battery. Some manufacturers refer to the switched contacts with ignition plus as terminal 15 .

Use of the ignition plus

Ignition starter switch, three-stage

Originally, Zündungsplus only supplied the eponymous ignition system with electricity. This is necessary so that the petrol engine receives a spark that initiates the combustion of the fuel-air mixture. The ignition is switched off to switch off the engine.

Over the years, more and more electrical consumers have been added. Those that are only needed during operation are connected to ignition plus at many vehicle manufacturers. Examples are cigarette lighter , car radio , headlights, power windows and many more. On the other hand, if they were connected to permanent positive , they could permanently consume electricity and discharge the starter battery . Even with diesel vehicles that do not have an ignition system, one speaks colloquially of ignition plus; What is meant is the current that flows when the starter lock is half turned.

Consumers that have to function even when the engine is switched off, such as the parking lights or parking lights, on the other hand, are connected to permanent plus .

Some vehicles have an additional position on the ignition lock that switches on certain consumers, for example window regulators and the radio .

In modern vehicles that do not have an ignition lock and therefore no ignition position of the key, there is no ignition plus in this sense. The numerous electrical consumers are supplied depending on various operating states. In some cars, for example, the power windows are powered when the engine is running or the relevant door is open. Some consumers are switched on or off with a time delay.

In a few vehicles, the positive pole of the battery is connected to the body, so that the negative is switched and one has to speak of ignition negative.
