Zainschmiede used the heavy iron rods from the iron and steel works to forge Zaineisen in the hammer mills . This semi-finished product was used for further processing by scythe , knife , blade and nail smiths as well as wire pullers and the like. a.

The Zaineisen were forged on special hammers, called " Reckhämmer " in Bergisch and Westphalian , in the rest of Germany and Austria "Zainhämmer". These independent hammer mills appeared in the second half of the 16th century and were not tied to the iron and steel works, but chose their locations according to the needs of their semi-finished products .
