Gripper feed

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gripper feeds are often found on presses with automatic or continuous stroke modes. The task of the feed consists in the step-by-step feeding of strip material.

construction

The gripper feed consists of the following components:

Automatic process

The tape is held by the fixed pliers when it is stationary. The movable tongs on the linear guide are in the rear position. Initiated by the control signal from the press, the movable gripper clamps the material and at the same time the fixed gripper releases the clamp. The pneumatic cylinder now executes the previously set linear feed movement. When it reaches its end position, the fixed tongs become active again and the movable tongs return to the starting position. The material is always advanced the same distance per cycle.

Intermediate ventilation

There are so-called searchers in many punching tools (especially progressive tools ). These are conically ground pins that engage in holes that have already been punched and precisely position the tape. At this point the material must be free to move in order for the viewfinder to move it. As soon as the finders in the tool are engaged, both pliers release the clamp. Once the belt has been positioned and the tool is completely closed, the feed changes back to the normal operating mode.

Advantages and disadvantages

The advantages of the gripper feed are the lower acquisition and maintenance costs compared to the alternative roller feed . The control of a gripper feed can be made simpler because the lengths have to be set mechanically and not programmed. The disadvantages are a longer set-up time and less precise feed movements. While a roller feed allows almost unlimited feeds, the gripper feed is limited by the length of the device.
