Zborowski (noble family)
The name Zborowski (the female form is Zborowska ) is the name of an important Polish noble family.
The name is said to be derived from the Galician place Zborów (today Sboriw , Ukraine).
The noble family was founded by Marcin Zborowski . Marcin Zborowski was also one of the most influential, as he was also referred to as the second most powerful man in the crown after the king. Part of the noble family converted to Protestantism .
Many subsidiary lines of the Zborowski emerged, but the most important and most powerful line died out in 1621. Another line died out in the 18th century.
Name bearer
- Louis Zborowski , also Count Louis Vorov Zborowski, racing car designer (“ Chitty Bang Bang ”) and racing driver, who died in an accident in 1924. His figure and his cars inspired the book and film vom Tschitti Tschitti Bäng Bäng (Book: 1964, German translation 1965/66, filming 1968), he was one of the initiators of the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway in Great Britain.
