Zdeněk Bláha (musician)

Zdeněk Bláha (born December 27, 1929 in Horní Bříza ) is a Czech folk musician and composer.

Bláha studied folk music at the Music Academy in Prague . He first played the violin before switching to the bagpipes in the early 1960s. He directed folk music and dance ensembles and was the music editor of the Czech Radio in Pilsen. He composed and arranged brass and folk music and wrote articles on Czech folk music and dances. His Christmas Nocturno became famous. Originally composed for three violins, it was arranged for numerous other ensembles (including saxophone, clarinet and flute trio).
