Zea Mays
Zea Mays is a rock band founded in 1997 in Bilbao , Spain .
Band history
In the summer of 1997 they recorded their first demo tape with 7 songs and in the same year they won the Maketa Lehiaketa music competition organized by the Basque public radio station Euskadi Gaztea. The price increased their popularity and gave them the opportunity to play several concerts in the Basque Country. In 1998 they received the prize for the best Basque band at the Villa de Bilbao pop-rock music competition .
In September 1998 they recorded their first album, Zea Mays , with the Gor record company. After playing a variety of concerts, they released their second album, Elektrizitatea , in March 2000 . In September of the same year they started a tour of the Netherlands.
In July 2002 they recorded their third CD, Harrobian , this time with the record company Gaztelupeko Hotsak. Before that they contributed a version of a song by Mikel Laboa that they interpreted for the album AEKantuz . In summer 2003 they went on tour through Europe again, playing in Germany and the Netherlands. In the same year they also gave many concerts in the Basque Country. In 2004 they played at the Festimad Festival in Madrid. They then worked on their new album.
In March 2005 they released their album Sortuz, grabitatearen aurka , with which they were very successful in the Basque Country.
In 2007 the band celebrated their 10th anniversary and brought out a DVD together with the album Morphina , on which their career is recorded in pictures. In 2010 the album Era was released . Then they released the albums Da and Harro .
For their 20th anniversary in 2017, they released a best-of album with their most popular hits: Zea Mays 20 urte .
