Zeal

Zeal was a web directory maintained by volunteers. It was founded in 1999 and sold to LookSmart for $ 20 million in October 2000 . After the takeover, paid workers joined the mass of volunteers to organize websites according to topic. This data was used by LookSmart and its partners as well as a number of search engines such as MSN , Lycos or Altavista .

Zeal was shut down on March 28, 2006.
