The Fridolin colliery was one of the many small tunnel mines in the Essen - Freisenbruch area .
The pit field was awarded on April 6, 1836 . On 15 February 1899, the mine Fridolin went to the adjacent coal mine Eiberg a consolidation one. Since then, this mine field has been mined by Zeche Eiberg.
In 1960 the Fridolinstraße in Essen-Horst was named after the colliery.
