The Justus colliery is a former hard coal mine in Kley . This mine was a small mine . The owner of this small mine was initially the company Gockel & Niebur, later ownership passed to Rudolf Damm. The mine was only in operation for a few years.
Mining history
In September 1956 the mine was put into operation. The mine field was near the street Am Zitter. This year, 53 miners extracted 2,854 tonnes of hard coal . In the following year, 83 miners extracted 21,605 tonnes of hard coal. In 1960, both the workforce and sponsorship numbers fell. This year, 63 miners extracted 20,419 tons of hard coal. On April 1, 1964 there was another change of ownership. The German-Dutch fuel and shipping company GmbH & Co KG became the new owner of the colliery . In this year the maximum production was achieved, with 78 miners 35,779 tons of hard coal were extracted. In the following year, 52 miners extracted 25,252 tons of hard coal. The Justus colliery was shut down on January 31, 1967.
